NDI New Mexico Hiland Company & UNM Dance Ensemble
Registration: $5 min (or pay more in support of NDI New Mexico)
An evening of contemporary dances at The Hiland Theater featuring Teaching Artist in Residence Babatunji Johnson, professional artists from his San Francisco‑based company, NDI New Mexico students, and artists from the University of New Mexico Department of Theatre and Dance.
Collective Pulse invites audiences into a vivid exploration of movement, connection, and community. Featuring San Francisco‑based choreographer and multidisciplinary artist Babatunji Johnson, the evening showcases his fusion of ballet, contemporary, breaking, and hip hop—an expressive movement language that bridges cultures, generations, and lived experiences.
At the heart of the program is an original work created by Johnson for NDI New Mexico students and performed alongside dancers from his company. Through a dynamic blend of styles, the piece reflects on what it means to build understanding in a world that often feels divided—reminding us that shared hopes, emotions, and humanity can bring us back into community with one another.
The performance also features dancers from the University of New Mexico Department of Theatre and Dance, creating a vibrant intergenerational exchange among artists ages 11 through adult. Together, these performers celebrate the diverse voices, stories, and movement traditions that shape our collective identity.
Collective Pulse is a powerful celebration of empathy, collaboration, and the belief that while our differences shape who we are, our common humanity is what ultimately connects us and transforms us.
