Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Accessibility at NDI New Mexico

NDI New Mexico’s founding principle is that the arts and creative expression are vital motivators for children, uniquely engaging them physically, emotionally and intellectually, while also providing them with important opportunities for friendship, self-expression and joy. 

NDI New Mexico’s core values – Belief in Children, Social Responsibility, Excellence, Sustainability, and Financial Integrity – are kindred with the Core Four principles we teach children: “Work Hard, Do Your Best, Never Give Up and Be Healthy.” Our staff members encourage and reinforce these principles on a daily basis, so children learn how to incorporate them not only during their time with NDI New Mexico, but also in other endeavors crucial to their development and achievement in life.

New Mexico staff members, along with our board of directors, also challenge ourselves on a daily basis to uphold these principles, and to ensure they are reflected in everything from strategic management of the organization to artistic programming. It is in that spirit we constantly ask ourselves, “How can we do better?”

Among the most important aspects NDI New Mexico strives to continuously improve is in the area of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA). NDI New Mexico has always considered EDIA to be of importance.  Because NDI New Mexico’s mission is to serve the state’s children and their families, we recognize that we have a particular responsibility to be not only reflective of the many children in our programs, but to take action, set goals and hold ourselves accountable for serving them in the most inclusive, accessible and effective way possible.

We recognize this is hard work, requiring effort, honesty and transparency, along with a commitment to having new conversations, listening closely to one another, and adapting and changing for the better. We also know it requires a thoughtful process that drives real results and demonstrable benefits for New Mexico’s children.

All of us at NDI New Mexico are dedicated to the well-being of our state’s children. Nothing is more important to us than seeing them thrive and succeed in meaningful ways. By strengthening our commitment to EDIA we intend to play an even more positive and impactful role in children’s lives.
