Hilma Chynoweth has worked primarily in commercial real estate and economic development. She presently leverages that experience on behalf of the Garcia Automotive Group as Director of Business Development. Her areas of interest are diverse and include workforce development, communications and marketing, as well as promoting the arts and culture of New Mexico. She currently serves as the District 3 State Transportation Commissioner for the New Mexico Department of Transportation; Board President of Explora Science Center and Children’s Museum; Trustee for the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History; Board Member and Past President of the New Mexico Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA); and training volunteer for Emerge NM. She holds a B.A. in (Cognitive) Psychology and an M.A. in English (Rhetoric and Writing), both from the University of New Mexico.
Her most successful endeavor to date has been collaborating with her husband of 31 years to raise four humans generous of heart, spirit, and mind. Some of her favorite activities involve enjoying the tremendous beauty in New Mexico while hiking, bicycling, and exploring its back roads and small towns.
