James Ortiz is a seasoned multistate tax consultant with more than 15 years of experience and expertise in sales and use tax, income tax, and credits and incentives. Throughout his career, James has successfully navigated the complexities of tax compliance across various jurisdictions in the United States and Canada. Since joining REDW in 2014, he has played a pivotal role in building the firm’s State and Local Tax (SALT) practice. Prior to this, James gained valuable insights working at the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department, where he specialized in audit procedures and specialty refund claims. With a diverse industry background encompassing nonprofit, healthcare, construction, renewable energy, real estate, manufacturing, software/technology, digital advertising, and telecommunications, James brings a wealth of knowledge to every engagement.
Beyond his professional pursuits, James is actively involved in the community as the Board Chair of Catholic Charities of New Mexico and Board Member of the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the NDI New Mexico’s Corporate Council. In recognition of his achievements and community contributions, James was honored with the esteemed “40 Under Forty” award by Albuquerque Business First in 2017. He is also a recent graduate of the Leadership New Mexico CORE Class of 2023.
