An iconic theatre known for hosting shows for decades reached a major milestone Saturday as people came together to celebrate its 75th anniversary. The Hiland Theater, which sits in the heart of Nob Hill, was built in 1950 and was once a gathering spot for families to enjoy their favorite films.
It has since turned into a performing arts space for NDI New Mexico, where hundreds of students learn how to dance and perform. “The Hiland Theater is a place that lives in the heart of people from Albuquerque. They remember coming to see a movie here, sitting in the balcony, holding hands, maybe having a first kiss,” says NDI New Mexico’s executive director, Russell Baker.
NDI New Mexico says the theater has been a long-standing cultural symbol for Albuquerque and the state. They hope to continue that tradition into the future.
