Santa Fe, NM — February 18, 2020 – Celebrating an incredible year of student success—both in dance and in the classroom—NDI New Mexico will be presenting an exciting End of Year event with over 400 participating students. On March 26 and 27, NDI New Mexico students from Hernandez, Los Alamos Middle School, Carlos Vigil Middle School, Española Valley High School, Pojoaque Valley Middle School, Pojoaque SGA, Ohkay Owingeh, Alcalde, ET Salazar, James H. Rodriguez, Tony E. Quintana, Pojoaque Valley Intermediate, McCurdy Charter School, and Chimayo will perform Think! A Math-Magical Journey.
The performances will speak to the power of math as a tool for unlocking the beauty and wonder of the world around us. From predicting the path of a bouncing ball on the playground, to learning about space travel, the notes of your favorite song, or creating the designs in a work of art, math can get you there. Students use dance and music to discover the creativity and power of math. The show and supporting curriculum help students and classroom teachers make content connections between what they learn in the classroom to the concepts that students dance about in their performances.
“Overall student well-being and success—academically, socially, mentally, and artistically—is our goal in our work with NDI New Mexico students.”
– Russell Baker, NDI New Mexico Executive Director.
“This performance highlights that mission, as well as showcases the incredible talent of these students. They have been working hard throughout the year, and we invite all in the community to come celebrate their dedication and achievements in this dynamic show.”
Enterprise Bank and Trust President, Liddie Martinez stated, “NDI New Mexico brings joyful dance and music to the schools, which helps students learn discipline, teamwork, and tenacity, which are the foundational skills for future success.” Support for NDI New Mexico North Programs requires and comes from key community stakeholders such as: Continuous Pathways Foundation, Delle Foundation, Enterprise Bank and Trust, Fasken Foundation, Los Alamos National Laboratory, LANL Foundation, New Mexico Arts, New Mexico Department of Health, N3B, and Rio Arriba County. Together, these organizations positively impacted the youth in Northern New Mexico.
Performances will take place on Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Pojoaque Valley High School in Pojoaque, with a school performance on Thursday at 10 a.m. For tickets and more information, call Geraldine Mascarenas at 505-557-6033 or 505-819-8778.
