Santa Fe, NM — April 7, 2020 – With COVID-19 keeping students at home, NDI New Mexico has partnered with Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) and New Mexico PBS (NMPBS) to get students moving at home. NDI New Mexico instructors will be leading children in “off the couch” dance activities between academic study lessons on NMPBS.
Each dance segment will run two to four minutes in the breaks following APS @HOME broadcast classroom programming on NMPBS Ch. 5.1 – weekdays from 8am-noon through the end of the school year. They will feature fun activities from NDI New Mexico’s public-school outreach programs. NDI New Mexico programming and instructors will include:
- Allie Sanchez leading the Mirror Game
- Shane Montoya leading a Hip Hop step-touch sequence
- Jessie DuBois leading a Call and Response warm-up
- Tom Porras leading a Sports themed dance
“We believe that children should keep active during this time. Our energetic and encouraging teachers model the Core Four: work hard, do your best, never give up, and be healthy in a joyful way. We hope that the NDI New Mexico dance segments provide ‘brain breaks’ that help children positively expend their natural energy so that they can focus on their academics and enjoy the school day at home.”
– Russell Baker, NDI New Mexico Executive Director

“We know our students miss their NDI New Mexico instructors, just as our instructors miss their students,” added Baker. “We’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with APS and NMPBS to still bring this interactive content to our students and to still be able to positively impact their school day at home. Whether students have worked with NDI New Mexico before or are just now hearing of us because of this partnership, we encourage all to get up, get active and stay healthy.”
