Junior & Senior Division
Junior & Senior Division
Ages 7-18 | LEVELS I-V, SPECIALTY AND OPEN DIVISION CLASSES
We highly recommend taking ballet technique to all our NDI New Mexico dancers. Jazz and Modern level placement will be based on your placement in ballet. For example: If your dancer is placed in Level 3 Ballet, he/she/they could take a Level 2 Modern, Jazz, Tap or Hip Hop class. Students should expect to stay in the same Ballet level for approximately two years or more, especially if time off is taken over the summer. Advancement to the next level is only upon recommendation of the current teaching artist. Please note, the pre-professional division is based more on skill rather than age and are by placement recommendations.
In the Junior and Senior Divisions, children can begin down the path of pursuing training in a variety of dance disciplines, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, tap, hip hop, and more. These classes culminate in a joyful and creative spring performance for families and the community to see and celebrate the dancers’ achievements. Classes Levels I-V require discipline, hard work and dedication, and many classes will have an accompanying ballet requirement as well as requirements for level placement, to ensure that students have the foundation that ballet provides to ensure proper technique and injury prevention. Open Level classes are for students interested in dance for the fun, creative expression, and community it provides, but without the technical requirements and for advanced training.
*Please Note: Students should expect to stay in the same ballet level for approximately two years or more, especially if time is taken off over the summer.
Boys Dance
Ages 5+ | INTRO, BOYS BALLET I & II
Our goal in Boys Dance is to make ballet more accessible to young boys so they have the opportunity to start and are given encouragement to stick with it! While boys may take any of our after-school classes, we are proud to offer three sections of “boys ballet” where they can focus on specific skills necessary to develop a young male dancer. There is also a sense of camaraderie that develops in a boys-only class with the guidance and encouragement of our Artistic Director, Rodney Rivera. We hope that these classes serve as a gateway for young boys to continue with dance or give them the courage to follow their dreams – no matter what they are!
Open Division
Ages 11-13+ | TEEN, TAP & HIP HOP PROGRAMS
Our goal in the Open classes is to cultivate a space for dancers who like to dance, but who don’t have a desire for advanced ballet-based technical training. These classes are meant to inspire dancers to express themselves, find a love of art, and stay active in a fun environment surrounded by friends. Tap and Hip Hop are the only styles of dance you can choose to continue your training recreationally without having to do ballet requirements.
