Our Dance Studio FAQs – Hiland Theater
NDI New Mexico FAQs
What is the student dress code?
Do you sell dancewear?
We sell ballet, jazz, and tap shoes, as well as black tank leotards and pink tights in the box office.
Can I borrow shoes?
Families are responsible for purchasing their child’s shoes in each dance discipline that they are taking.
How much are performance costumes?
Our costume fee is included in our $30 registration fee at the time of enrollment.
Can I purchase a copy of a performance?
Yes, we have a limited number of DVDs from past performances (2020 and prior) available to purchase for $20. All performances from 2021 onward will be available to purchase virtually through a Vimeo link. Please contact the office for more information on videos.
Can I enroll in classes after September?
Registration closes on October 1.
Can I enroll in classes on a month-to-month basis?
Our curriculum is based on a full-year progression. We do not offer monthly enrollment. Regular enrollment and attendance ensure appropriate progress.
What happens if we decide to stop taking classes before the program year is over?
The last date to receive a refund is October 1. If your family should choose to discontinue classes with us after that date and before the schoolyear program is over, you are still responsible for the remaining financial commitment of that program. NDI New Mexico believes that every child in our community should have access to high-quality dance education; please reach out to us if you require additional financial assistance.
How do I know which classes are appropriate?
The ages listed on our class description and schedule pages are general guidelines. Please call or see us in person for specific placement information.
Does my child automatically move up to the next level each fall?
Our teachers recommend advancement whenever the student is ready. Students often spend two to three years at a particular level.
Do you offer scholarships?
NDI New Mexico believes that every child in our community should have access to high quality dance education. Our Annual Household Income sliding scale is our primary form of scholarship assistance. Tax returns or recent pay stubs are required to qualify. Please reach out to us if you require additional financial assistance.
Can parents watch their dancer in class?
Parents are encouraged to participate in our Creative Movement classes for ages 3 and 4. For all dancers Pre-Dance level and up, only dancers and staff may enter the studios during classes. Some of our studios have a window where parents/families may watch if they are not disruptive to their dancer or class.
Do you offer classes during the summer?
We offer short June and July summer sessions.
Does my child need to attend classes regularly?
It is essential that classes are attended consistently. If students frequently miss classes, it is difficult for them to catch up on what they may have missed, and it is also difficult for other students to work around those who are missing.
How is information relayed to parents and students?
We rely on email to get our information out. It is therefore important that we have your best email contact and that you please check your emails regularly. Also keep an eye on the whiteboard and flyers in the front lobby for announcements.
How can I contact my dancer’s instructor?
Please contact the Artistic Director or Producer at your location and they can connect you with your instructor.
What are your box office hours?
During the program year, box office hours are the same as our office hours. Modified box office hours will be posted when there are upcoming performances.
